Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
It is probably too late to pick up some 5 oz Tigers as the Perth Mint has stopped minting them.
In my opinion this coin is a sleeper and I expect the resale valuation to soar in the near future. It is very difficult to source and is already fetching a very nice premium on ebay. I would be very surprised if the mintage is more than 5000. |
Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
search EBAY lots of tiger coins...

Have you seen any evidence that the Perth Mint won't resume production? They have until the end of 2010 to make them. All sizes of the 2010 silver lunar coins are still listed on the mint's web site. APMEX had them in stock until a day or two ago. They probably have more on the way. Are you selling on eBay and trying to pump up the price a bit?:s1: Perth Mint lunar coins commonly sell on eBay for more than the big-name on-line dealers list them for. |

Today Gainesville is selling them for about $216 (credit card price, shipping not included.) |
Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
I bought a couple of 5 oz Tiger Lunar 2's and am really impressed. They are large enough for the "WHOA" factor to really kick in; the two's are nice but don't quite make it. I think the 5's hit the magic spot. I've got 10's and kilos in Australian silver but think that in the future 6 X 5 oz coins will beat a kilo.

Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
The tragedy / comedy of T.Woods can be traced to the difference between the common law and national socialism.
His lawful wife, under the common law, would not have grounds to object to his philandering. No illegitimate child could put a claim upon the family property, merged for the benefit of lawful progeny. But if he was diverting family property to a mistress, he'd be liable for a criminal charge. However, under national socialism, he has no private property rights. He would be held liable to pay support to any illegitimate offspring, since he's a "contributor" equally liable on the national debt - and for supporting wards of the state. The licensed wife would only have a claim upon property that the State grants to her and their children. |

I nearly ordered a 10 oz last week, but I decided to order a 1/2 kilo instead. I couldn't afford both. I hope the 1/2 kilo doesn't make the 5 oz coin seem tiny. Unfortunately, I have the collector's gene, so I'll have to try to get one of each size eventually. (Not the 10 kilo; that's WAY too big and expensive.) |

It was about the immediate suspension of large coin sales. Somewhere in the same flyer was a statement that the Perth Mint would only take orders for kilogram coins from December. Reasonable to assume that they will be busy enough trying to mint the more profitable kilo coin than mess around with the 5oz . Want to buy them direct from the Perth Mint, Good luck! Hell will freeze first because even though it's listed on their site, they don't have any in stock. As for my mintage guessestimate of 5000. Check the mintage on Lunar series one! http://www.perthmint.com.au/investme...ns_lunar1.aspx Not offering my coins for sale to anyone here; just feel it has great potential in the near future. If you check out http://forums.silverstackers.com/viewtopic.php?id=425 which is where Aussie silverbugs hang out, you will find everyone there are bullish on this coin's potential. |
Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
The perth mint has some great looking coins! The US mint should really get a clue

If my memory is right, the 2008 (mouse) Series II 5 oz lunar mintage was around 3000. But I can't check now; their web site is down. Do you think the 2010 5 oz coin will perform significantly better than the 2009 one? 2009 seems to be easy to get now, but the mint will definitely stop making them at the end of the year (if they haven't already stopped). I just think it's too early to expect 2010 mintage to stay low. APMEX was selling 2009 and 2010 at the same price until they sold out of the 2010. What do you think about the 1/2 kilo silver lunars? Even lower mintages so far. But they cost more so they are less collectible. |

Which sign would you choose to be born under or own? Under a symbol of power and strength or a beast of burden. Expect the Chinese population to explode this year as every Chinese tries to sire a son under this auspicious sign. As far as I am aware there has been no reselling of 1/2 kilo Tigers on Aussie ebay since its release so I suppose they are rarer. |

After pushing these 5 ozs so hard; one just gave me a mauling. On Aussie ebay yesterday, one of them sold for about $A20 less than the previous low. :signs14: I put it down to the light traffic on Aussiebay. It is so slow they offered free listings. Forgot to mention that there has been no kilo or 1/2 kilo tiger lunars offered for sale on aussie ebay that I am aware off. Only the overpriced coloured ones that is nearly double in price Also can't source those 1/2 kilos and kilos from the Perth Mint or any of the coin-dealers in Oz at present. The Perth Mint must have shipped the entire kilo mintage over to Ampex and other US dealers bypassing the Aussie market altogether. |

Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
Thanks guys, Gainsville just replied to my emails and said all of their tigers come in the pearth mint plastic cases  . Gainsville is about 9 bucks a coin cheaper than APMEX. Depending how many coins your buying, Gainsville is most likely cheaper. Apmex is offering free shipping right now but I'm probably gonna buy 10 of these. If I bought from Apmex, it would cost about 90 bucks more than Gainsville. At Gainsville, I will have to pay shipping but it's only $20 so I'm still $70 ahead. I'm using the credit card prices with gainsville, if you do a wire transfer it's even cheaper.

Those Tiger coins are beautiful, and the appreciation on them will be considerable (based on past year's performance figures on other Tigers)
Besides the Dragon (which is my year) the Tiger is one of the other hot performers in any lunar series. Since 2010 is a year of the Tiger, if you're at all interested, don't be shy to load up on any other Tiger coins you see out there that you like. You'll be rewarded over the long haul. I also bought a Canadian mint Tiger (they sell multiple styles). I bought the one in the first pic, which is the first of a new lunar series, and is 92.5% proof. It's the Canadian mint's first 8 scallop coin, and is supposed to be reminiscent of a lotus flower. The second one is 99.99% proof. I'm also thinking about more Perths in different sizes, like the kilo. So far I've only gotten some of the 1 ouncers and a 5 ounce. I was contemplating a proof from Perth but in the end was turned off by their price. The bullion are nice enough. Maybe we can keep this thread alive if anyone finds any other tigers they can share the information on. Take care and MERRY CHRISTMAS! |
Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
alright, I'm in for 10 of the 5oz'ers. The Aussies seem to think this one is gonna have a super low mintage.

Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
Wow! I just got in my 5oz Tiger's and my jaw hit the floor! Things things look amazing. I'm wishing I would have bought much more. All my silver before these has been eagles so you can imagine the difference. These 5oz'ers are huge and beautiful. I cant stop looking at them:36_1_25:

Re: Year of the "TIGER" silver coins
I have some of each of the 1,2 and 5 that I am holding onto.
Really liked the older lunar tiger better, but it's better than most other coins. Quote:
